It’s a layered planting plan designed to grow more beautiful each year.

Bloom Sequence

Spring:
Peony foliage emerges. Nigella begins early growth.

Early Summer:
Peony blooms. Poppies flower.

Mid to Late Summer:
Phlox reaches full height. Cosmos fills in. Nigella reseeds lightly.

Late Season:
Cosmos continues bloom until frost.

What to Expect

Year 1:
Structure establishes. Annuals provide movement and seasonal bloom.

Year 2:
Phlox fills in. Peony increases bloom production. Self-sown nigella and poppy begin to naturalize.

Year 3 and Beyond:
The bed develops density, repetition, and the luminous layered look white gardens are known for.
